Headline Acts: Coltrane Day 2017

Kenny Garrett – Jazz Sax Icon – Over the course of a stellar career that has spanned more than 30 years, Kenny Garrett has become the preeminent alto saxophonist of his generation. From his first gig with the Duke Ellington Orchestra (led by Mercer Ellington) through his time spent with musicians such as Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers and Miles Davis, Garrett has always brought a vigorous yet melodic, and truly distinctive, alto saxophone sound to each musical situation.

Brandee Younger – Jazz Harpist and Long Islander – Brandee Younger is known for sharing the stage with Jazz Royalty Jack Dejohnette & Ravi Coltrane, laying down tracks with Grammy-Winning Rapper Common and Artist and Producer Ryan Leslie, as well as bringing to life the Classic Impressionistic work of Maurice Ravel.

Matt Garrison -Iconic Jazz Bassist, in collaboration with Shapeshifter Lab – Since 2012, Matt Garrison has run the Shapeshifter Lab in Brooklyn, New York, with Fortuna Sung. Described by the New York Times as “an electric bass virtuoso”, he has toured with Herbie Hancock and many others. His 2000 debut album, Matthew Garrison, was described by Bass Player magazine as having “raised the bar” for electric bass players. He is considered one of the most technically gifted jazz musicians of his generation.

Charles Neville with jamband Circus Mind – Charles Neville, the second oldest Neville brother, has the most diverse musical background. His experience on saxophone has included rhythm & blues, funk, jazz, be-bop, popular and even American Indian music. He cites as influences Louis Jordan, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Professor Longhair. He is also the only brother that lived away from New Orleans for long periods of time, making places like New York, Memphis and Oregon his home.

Upright Man – NYC based fusion band – Upright Man combines elements of alternative, psychedelic, roots rock and classic rock with complex harmonies and time signatures, seamlessly intertwining influences from Pink Floyd to Little Feat and more.
