February 22nd marked the announcement of a special celebration of my mother’s life presented by The Coltrane Home. Throughout 2024-2025, we will present an ambitious slate of programming from Long Island to Brooklyn to Detroit to California, featuring recording releases, concerts, education outreach, an Oral History Project, panel discussions and listening parties, a dance collaboration, a museum exhibit, and much more honoring her expansive, creative spirit.
My brother Ravi, Brandee Younger, and I kicked off The Year of Alice in style with a special press event at Birdland. The room was filled with reporters, friends, supporters, and collaborators cheering on our work to bring Alice Coltrane the recognition she deserves!
We welcomed our partners: Detroit Jazz Festival, The Hammer Museum, LINES Ballet, Shapeshifter Lab, Lyon & Healey Harps, Impulse! Records, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, New-York Historical Society, School for Improvisational Music, and The National Trust for Historic Preservation/African American Cultural Heritage Fund to participate in this announcement. We expect this impressive list to expand.
